Rebelutions
Rebelutions correct the internal voltage differential we create inside ourselves by denying the part in all of us that is more Rebel than Taskmasker. If our inner taskmaster makes resolutions, it’s usually our inner rebel that breaks them. The battle can be exhausting. We think it's all Rebel's fault.

Memory/Ritual/Tradition
Growing up, my family was very serious about Christmas rituals
Almost all of them were about food, or drink, or both. There was our sanctioned annual cookie line-up: Nutty Nougats (Uncle Clint always ate them all)

The Meaning Of Food
Mid-summer, my boo Jeff scheduled his second bike packing trip with friends from University of Texas architecture school. They intend this to be an annual thing, which I think is super cool, a way to check in and reconnect despite increasingly chaotic lives. Last year was Valles Caldera and this year they planned to ride, over three days, the Continental Divide Trail from Chama to Ojo Caliente.

Learning To Dig
Sometimes I sit with my elbows on my kitchen counter and stare at the red cabbage sprouts. I look closer until I find new ones that have poked through the soil, wearing their husks like a hat. Their spicy funk—the same compound that makes wasabi hot—tickles my nostrils.

Ghost Farms, Ghost Kitchens, Ghost Towns
Many people [...] didn't realize how these delivery platforms are threatening to kill the restaurant, an institution that survived centuries of tumult but may not make it through the COVID-19 crisis.

How we eat informs who we are becoming
The world of food can’t be boxed, bagged and delivered. Every time we swipe, tap or click lunch or dinner, the future of dining dies a little.

Bring your appetite, not your fears, to the dining table
At the beginning of every year, hot on the heels of holiday excess, my salad restaurant Vinaigrette fields a flurry of calls and emails about which of our menu items are “Whole 30 friendly.” If every generation has its favorite diet (remember Brandt, Atkins, The Zone, South Beach?), the one that has captured our attention now is the Whole 30.
